What I’m studying vs What I really want to do.
I interviewed a bunch of my course mates (I’m studying Information & Communication Engineering) asking what they really want to study/go into career wise. The responses may or may not be related to what they are currently studying. So here we go…
MEET IRE:
very calm and a sweetheart too.
Me: What do you really want to do?
Ire: I would have wanted a career in geography or aviation.
Me: So why did you pick this course?
Ire: Actually, mostly my dad and I contributed to me picking this course.
Me: I want you to close your eyes this moment, and imagine yourself in a couple years, what do you see yourself doing?
Me: I see myself as a pilot or even an animator.
MEET YOMI:
a fun and playful fellow.
Yomi: My dream career is being a pro basketball player or a programmer.
I didn’t want to go to University. I wanted to train to be a pro player but my mum especially didn’t agree to it because it’s
somehow not going to University, especially in Nigeria. So when it came to choosing a course of study, I picked computer science as my first choice since I liked programming as well but I didn’t get it and I got Info. & Comm. Engineering which was my second choice. But I thought it’s still cool, since it may be a lot related. But it really isn’t related. So, I’m just here to finish the degree.
Me:If all odds were in your favour, which career would you pick over the other?
Yomi: I love basketball. I’d pick a career in basketball over programming.
MEET AMARACHI:
a very funny and lovely person.
Amarachi: I want to be famous. I want to go into entertainment.
Me: So why are you here?
Amarachi: Well, I thought it was something that it’s not. I was a science student in secondary school so I had to do something science related. I thought it was related to mass communication, something close to the entertainment industry, so I picked it. But when I got here, I found out it was something opposite…not even opposite, entirely different. So now, I have to finish what I started.
The only reason I’ll ever be working in engineering is just to make money.
MEET FAVOUR:
my namesake/ birthday mate and super caring.
Favour: What I really want to do is to teach. I want to speak and people want to listen to me.
Me: So why are you studying Information & Communication Engineering?
Favour: When it was time to pick a course, my dad wanted me to do something really “big”. If he had his way, I’ll probably be doing software engineering, not even info. & comm. engineering. That’s his aim, for me to go into tech tech, like tech tech tech.
MEET TOMIWA:
calm and fun to be around.
Tomiwa: I actually love tech. I’d like a career in cyber security or software engineering. I actually wanted to study software engineering but CU didn’t have that so I picked I.C.E, something close to it.
Me: So you’re happy with what you’re studying?
Tomiwa: It could be better but yeah, I am.
Thanks for reading.
Respond in the comments if you’d like a part 2💕
